Mobile Oven Season – Summer 2016

We’re firing up the mobile oven!

With the warm weather just beginning we’re ready for our mobile oven season! We’re so excited to be a part of some of our favorite summer events. Nothing says summer like enjoying pizza al fresco.

July 1 – Gorge Canada Day Picnic For over 15 years now, the Gorge Canada Day Picnic has been a must-see event! From parades to pancake breakfasts, canoe rides and bouncey castles there’s something for everyone. There are over 60 artisan market vendors and 40 food vendors! We can’t think of a better way to spend Canada Day than with good company and great pizza!

July 22-24 – Rock the Shores Located in Colwood, Rock the Shores is a music festival showcasing local talent. Their goal is to be an affordable and easily accessible rock festival! This year, children under 10 are admitted for free. We’ll see you there!

August 18 – Feast of Fields Feast of Fields is a celebration of local foods and sustainable agriculture. Guests walk from tent to tent (or mobile oven!) while listening to live music and tasting the freshest foods. Funds raised…

New summer salad!
Summer Menu Additions

We’re welcoming back our favorite summer foods!

We love our new seasonal menu additions and are thrilled to share them with you! We pride ourselves in serving fresh, local ingredients. You’re sure to see that in our Summer menu!

The Insalata Rucola e Melone is the perfect light summer salad. It features balsamic marinated melon and crispy prosciutto with gorgonzola and local City Harvest arugula. Our other new salad is the Insalata di Tonno – tuna conserva with roasted cauliflower, house smoked almonds, red onions and a caper vinaigrette. Keep an eye out for the Insalata Caprese. It’ll be making appearances on our feature boards!

While it’s hard to say goodbye to the Salsiccia e Rapini and the Patata e Radicchio, we know it means the return of cherry tomatoes and the Pizze Filetti! We’re excited to bring you a pizza with a basil pesto base, the Capricciosa Verde (cah-pri-chose-ah ver-day). If you love pesto and lots of toppings, this is the pie for you! It has house ham, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, olives, fresh mozzarella, and Parmigiano.

Of course, we’ve added a Summer cocktail too! The Cynar Collins is a delicious mix of Cynar, fresh lemon, and soda.…

Summer Events in Victoria

Nothing says summer quite like awesome local events!

There’s a lot that we love about living in Victoria. From the people to the sights and with summer officially days away, the fun events. It’s a very long list with so many great happenings, we’ve whittled it down to our top 5 Don’t Miss!

1. Selkirk Waterfront Festival – May 28 Our favourite family event of the summer! With face painting, balloon animals and fun crafts, your children are sure to love it.  Join us in supporting one of our local neighborhoods – Burnside Gorge. PPS Bridge is a 5 minute walk from the festivities – stop in for pizza, house made gelato or a refreshing beverage!

2. Car Free YYJ – June 19 Bike, walk or bus down to Douglas St to celebrate Car Free YYJ. There’s something for everyone – live music, delicious eateries and over 250 local vendors! Said to be Victoria’s largest street fair with more than 22,000 people in attendance last year. We sure can’t wait!

We’re serving Venturi-Schulze’s Piccolo wine all Summer long. Here’s why.

At Pizzeria Prima Strada, we only serve the best. If it doesn’t come straight from Italy, it has to be local. From the ingredients on our pizzas, to the wines we pour, this is our philosophy – our golden rule.

That’s why this month ‘til the end of Summer we’re featuring Venturi Schulze’s Piccolo wine.

Haven’t heard of them? They’re located just North of Victoria in Cobble Hill.

Like Prima Strada and the majority of our community partners, Venturi Schulze is a family-owned business. They’re as passionate about wine as we are pizza. For them, making wine is definitely a labour of love – the proof is in their product.

Like all of their wines, their Piccolo is handmade and organic. It’s a slightly off-dry white wine that we think pairs amazingly well with our feature salads and all lighter fare at PPS.

See for yourself! Next time you visit PPS, ask your server for a glass of Venturi Schulze’s Piccolo. You won’t find it anywhere else!  We absolutely love it. We know you will, too!

Housemade Prima Strada Pepperoni

At Prima Strada, we’re passionate about pizza. And while we adhere to the traditions of Neapolitan pizza, we love pepperoni. To be clear, we mean the smoky pork style of cured sausage typically found on pizzas in North America, not the Italian word for bell peppers (although we love those too).

If you’re a regular at PPS, you know we love to make everything we can from scratch. Dough for pizza and bread, sausage and desserts are just a few of the delicious foods to come out of the PPS kitchens. We’re happy to announce we’ve added Pepperoni to the list. housemade smoked pepperoni

For years, PPS pepperoni was made locally by Choux Choux Charcuterie. Behind the scenes, PPS Chef Alex How was noodling on how to make it in house. After testing a few recipes, Chef Alex found “the one”  and now transforms Hertel‘s pork into the perfect smoky addition to any pizza.
