Year in Review 2019

Year in Review? Really! It’s that time already? As 2019 draws to a close (in a few short hours!), we want to say thank you. What a great year it’s been – and all because of you!

2019 has been chock full of many great moments – pizza, beer, gelato pops, Pizza Expo in Vegas, Da Michele’s in Naples, Italy (we know Len, we know). You’ve shared your days with us – birthdays, date nights, family dinner, quick lunch and more. Again, thank you.

An especially important 2019 event was creating a new purpose statement for Prima Strada. Our team researched, talked, laughed and told stories. White boards were involved! All this and more to determine what Prima Strada means to us and what guides us. Our passion for pizza, to our community and to hospitality is what powers us, every day, every year. Pizza. People. Passion. Are you hungry?

“Grazie mille!” to our family, friends and fans. We couldn’t have done it without you – all the pizzas and gelato and meatballs (and more!), the beer and wine and that oh so delicious Aperol Spritz (a personal fav)!

We’re giving the Gift of PARM!

Giving the gift of PARM? Yes, Prima Strada is giving PARMESAN RINDS as a gift! Parmesan rinds contain magical properties (and magic is certainly part of the holiday season).

Stop by your favourite Pizzeria Prima Strada and pick up your small present – a pack of parm rinds. Available December 18 – 23 11:30 a.m. until closing, while supplies last!

The rind of a parmesan wheel is all cheese, like the crust on a loaf of bread. It is full of calcium and contains trace amounts of lactose. It adds flavour to a broth, soups and sauces.

A friend swears the ultimate snack is to soften a piece of rind in the microwave then drizzle with your favourite syrupy balsamic vinegar. I prefer to use in soups and in our favourite – pasta ceci. Before serving, I remove the rind, chop into small bits and add back into the pot. You’ll find chewy delicious bites are the best part of the dish.

Here’s a favourite recipe for Black Eyed Pea Stew , it needs a parm rind (of course)! I’ve also included a few notes (I’ve made it many times):

Prima Strada Supports Local School Breakfast

We love a good pizza party, especially when it involves giving back to our community.

Join us on Tuesday, November 26th at Pizzeria Prima Strada on Fort Street or Cook Street (dine in or take out), and a portion of our proceeds will be donated to support local school breakfast programs in Victoria.

“Thriving in the community we live and work in and supporting our neighbourhood is a big deal to us,” says Andrew Johnson, Prima Strada’s Director of Operations. “We’re thrilled to be a part of this incredible event with the Rotary Club in Victoria – Harbourside supporting local breakfast programs in Greater Victoria and we’re doing it the only way we know how – with pizza!”

The funds raised go towards a private party for kids this holiday season. It’s a private party for kids and it’s sponsored by the community.  Picture over 300 kids and their families enjoying the iconic holiday season blockbuster movie “Polar Express” at IMAX Victoria, Royal BC Museum, on Sunday December 8th at 8:30am all in their pyjamas, enjoying breakfast and entertainment – all for FREE.

Long Table in Cobble Hill

That’s right, the team at Pizzeria Prima Strada along with Blue Grouse Estate Winery Winemaker Bailey Williamson will join forces for two new Long Table events in Cobble Hill.

Event dates:

Wednesday, November 13th @ 6:30pm – buy ticket  – SOLD OUT Thursday, November 28th @ 6:30pm – buy tickets – SOLD OUT

The evening begins at 6:30pm at our Cobble Hill location. While Bailey shares his knowledge and answers your questions about Cowichan Valley’s Blue Grouse wines, you’ll sip vino and snack on antipasti. Dinner will follow – served family-style.

Purchase your seat from the PPS Events Page. Cost is $55 per person (does not include gratuity). The evening includes a 3-course meal with paired wine tasting along the way.

Join Prima Strada Cook Street on July 24 and Prima Strada Fort Street on July 25 for pizza and a free sample of Averill Creek‘s newest wine, JOUE. Averill Creek wine maker Brent will be onsite between 5pm – 7pm to tell us about the vino but more importantly show off and let us taste his newest creation. PPS’ Executive Chef Franz has put together a fantastico pizza and wine pairing which we know you’ll love.

Pizza and wine go together like tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. Pizza would not be the same without these simple ingredients. Fact. That’s how we feel about our friends at Averill Creek and their newest wine.

Our friendship with local Cowichan winery, Averill Creek Vineyard is something special. So special that we’re getting an exclusive sneak peek at their newest wines…and we’re sampling with you!
