Let’s celebrate the bees! This past weekend, we caught a bit of sun on the patio and surveyed our front lawn. We’ve got too many dandelions for Geoffrey’s sensibility but I assured him a few dandelions are more than okay. Actually, they are great for bees!
This May, help us celebrate the bees. Prima Strada will donate a $1 from the purchase of each Feature Pizza and Feature Dessert to the Cowichan Beekeepers Club.
The Features:
Dolci – Lemon Almond Polenta Cake w/scoop of house made Fior di latte gelato, drizzled with Cowichan honey, garnished with wildflowers for $12
Pizza – Olive oil, sausage, ricotta, grapes, arugula, honey for $23
Available at all 3 pizzerias!
A few years back, we partnered with the Cowichan Beekeepers Club; we visited hives and learned all about bees. It was an amazing experience and we’re very happy to once again be helping the club and the bees. The Cowichan Beekeepers Club is raising funds to help improve their mobile education training trailer. Last season, a new 7x 14’ enclosed cargo trailer was donated to the club. Here’s how they will use the funds:
Education – Each year the Club is approached by teachers asking to visit their apiaries, however, unfortunately, due to insurance issues, beekeepers are not covered by insurance to have children visit their yard and thus pose a liability. The trailer will travel to schools from the Malahat to Ladysmith, children will receive a more comprehensive lesson on the bees. With the “portable” classroom, those who are uneasy with bees can easily opt out.
Community Events – The trailer will be at events such as the Day of the Honey Bee, the Cobble Hill Fair and the Cowichan Exhibition. This trailer will also be used by club members on field days, where testing equipment can be used by club members for disease diagnosis or where queen grafting can be practiced, and education can continue.
Eat well. Do good.
