Help Us Help The Shelbourne Community Kitchen! Come Celebrate International Women’s Day With Us At PPS Cook!

unnamed-2

On Sunday, March 8, the world celebrates International Women’s Day, or as they say in Italian, Festa della Donna. For the team at Pizzeria Prima Strada, this is a very special day – one that’s very close to our hearts.

Last year, Prima Strada celebrated Festa della Donna with a very special long-table dinner at our Bridge Street location. The dinner was a time to toast each other and our female inspirations over an amazing meal, all while raising money for an important cause.

The dinner raised $1000 for the BC Farm Women’s Network Scholarship Fund – an organization dedicated to BC farm families. PPS connected with the BCFWN with the help of Anthea Archer (the Archer family of Fairburn Farm Water Buffalos in Duncan). If you eat, you’re involved in agriculture says the BCFWN and we at PPS heartily agree.

This year, we’re doing things a little differently.

On Sunday, March 8th, we’ll donate a portion of our sales from PPS Cook Street to a woman in the community who does amazing work, Kim Cummins. Kim is the Program Coordinator of the Shelbourne Community Kitchen How do we know Kim? For three years, she worked with us at PPS Bridge Street. Kim departed PPS to pursue her dreams and passions of working with the Shelbourne Community Kitchen. Kim will always be a part of the family, and we couldn’t be more proud of her!

At the Shelbourne Community Kitchen, Kim works with the community to develop and maintain garden and kitchen programs; offer food distribution; coordinate volunteers; and ultimately, do anything she can to increase levels of food security for low-income families and individuals in the Victoria region.

“I believe that everyone has the right to healthy food and a sense of community belonging,” says Kim. We could not agree more.

At the SC kitchen, Kim’s latest project is fundraising for a wheelchair accessibility ramp. We want to help her out.

Visit our Cook Street location on Sunday March 8th to celebrate Festa della Donna and help us support Kim Cummins and the Shelbourne Community Kitchen!

  1. Thank you to PPS for supporting a former employee in such a worthy cause and thank you to Kim for having the ‘heart and the courage’ to share her skills and determination with others while recognizing everyone’s right to have dignity and belonging while ‘giving themselves a hand up’.

    1. Thank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely comment, Shirley! We’re so happy to support Kim and her hard working team at the Shelbourne CK.
